TAS Tax Tip: IRS 2022 National Tax Forum to be held virtually

Each year, the IRS sponsors the National Tax Forum. The event is a series of tax education sessions for tax professionals. The 2022 Virtual Tax Forum kicked off on July 19 and will run through August 18 with webinars offered every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

These events feature the latest information from the IRS, news about tax law changes, the opportunity to meet software vendors, and the opportunity to participate in 30 different seminars presented by IRS employees and members of professional associations.

The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) invites tax professionals attending this year's forum to register and participate in our focus group sessions on "IRS Accounts Online" and "Response to IRS Correspondence Verification Notices." Your knowledge and innovative ideas shared during these discussions help TAS improve services to taxpayers on these issues. Visit our virtual booth at the IRS National Tax Forum to find out how you can get involved and make a difference by sharing your hands-on experience during TAS focus group events every Tuesday and Wednesday, July 19 through August 16, 2022, from 12 :30 pm m. at 1 pm m.: 30 EST.

At this year's Forum, the Taxpayer Advocacy Service will present a seminar focused on:

Attorney for Taxpayers Receiving Collection Notices

The IRS is required by law to send certain notices to taxpayers before it can collect taxes the IRS deems due. At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

  • identify the most common notices that the IRS sends to request the payment of taxes or to propose a forced collection action through liens and taxes;
  • understand the effect of the temporary suspension of such notices by the IRS; Y
  • advise your customers on options for responding to these alerts.
