Terrible service!!! Waited over an hour on the phone to have my transcript faxed and I gave up after getting dropped. After waiting for the first 30+mins I spoke to a person who said the system was down so I would have to start from the beginning and call again. The second time waiting another over 30+mins the person couldnt hear me for some reason and hanged up on me when I said wait while I tried to remove my headsets and speak directly to the phone. I'm not calling again! Been trying to get my transcript for school's financial aid for over 2months and I feel cursed!! I tried getting it mailed through phone 2 different times and it never arrived. I tried online and it asks information about owning a house or car for verification but I have none of those so we can't do it online unless you owe what's asked for. Unbelievable!

Went on an emergency basis to drop of my taxes I really needed my copy to be stamped received and they refused to do it several times I asked and they just didn t want to do it. The clerk was so annoyed when he saw that I was making a payment as well, to much work I guess to take my hard working money. I bet there are a lot of people that would love to have a job there, maybe the ones that find it to hard to perform their duty should find something else to do.

I went to the IRS today October 17th at 9 a.m to drop off my taxes for year 2017. I had to correct error that I made with my last name. Didn't change it on my SS after I got married. I needed the lady to stemp my taxes so I can get my home loan approved. The two African American ladies were super nice and helpful. Big thank you to them that made my day so much easier !

This is the most unprofessional place I've ever visited. Its a joke to think this is a branch of the IRS. The African american woman sitting at the desk instantly gave me attitude and did not help with anything I had to say , on top of barley letting me get a word in. I know this review doesn't even matter because nothing will change, the people that work for the IRS know they have peoples lively hood in their hands and they get off on not helping. I don't know why all the reviews are like this but I went there without the appointment and they took me in and I was out in 15 mins. Nobody was racist to me(I am brown Pakistani). Maybe it's one one the officers but the lady I met at the window/cubicle and the lady at the reception were both nice to me.

Don’t try and resolve your tax issues here, the location is CLOSED for at least another 2 weeks. Wish I didn’t lose $15 on the Lyft it took to get there only to spend more to get back, but their hours are not updated. The security guard there was extremely friendly.

When I visited the office, a lady was almost dominating everything in the reception desk. She never listened to me and just gave me a piece of paper which shows several phone numbers of IRS (they're so hard to reach; it takes forever!) with an arrogant attitude. I am a taxpayer. I went there to get a business transcript printed. I made an appointment(that's required) over the phone which took 25 min. I asked the gentleman what to bring with me on the day of my apt..ID, SS#, and Tax ID. So the day of my apt I show with just that and was told I can't have my transcript without additional proof that I was the owner. I asked him to check the state of IL (cyber drive) website where it lists me as president. He said that it wasn't his responsibility and on top of that he laughed at me when supposedly my business address didn't match what he had on file. I'm pretty sure I know where my business is. This guy really went out of his to not help me. My advice, never go there and try to get what you need online.

Contacting the IRS is the worst experience ever! I don't need an automated system when there is a correction to be made. The IRS won't hesitate to notify you when you owe money, but it's hard trying to get your money or make corrections to get your refund. A simple error was made with my taxes and I needed to speak with someone directly. You constantly get the voice mail, sent to automated system and have to go thru 1000 questions just to get service! What's going on? Is there a lack of employees? Hire someone if this is the case! A very angry tax payer!

Leslie I have never had the displeasures like I've read in the reviews to visit the IRS Chicago office. However, I have had bad experiences talking to IRS staff by phone, etc.. To write them is like communicating with non human computerized letters with no sign a living person wrote it. None of the letters I received bared a wet ink signature, just a computer printed name. Unfortunately, for me, last week while searching property in my name at Cook County Recorder, to my surprise I read that a federal lien was filed against me only. My spouse and I filed our taxes jointly and got refunds. They just filed the bogus Civil Penality lien of about $80,000++ under my social security number only. I know for a fact that I am in a certain targeted group by the IRS in Chicago. The lien is bogus and not based on any tax forms using my SSN, that was signed and filed by me with the IRS. Whats really sad is that it doesn't even bare a printed name and signature to identify the Chicago IRS agent who prepared and/or filed it. In dealing with them, by correspondence, I have learned that it's hard to put up a fight with ghost writters. Ghost writers can't be held accountable for letters they send out, because they can defend that they didn't sign it. I see it as a way to sometimes shield against liability. They never filed a tax law suit in fefersl tax court against me, yet can file a bogus, frivolous ghost federal lien. I hear on goggle search that some people are pushing to pass a bill to "Abolish the IRS"!!! They certainly got my support.

The employees at the IRS are dirty unwiped anuses! You ask them a simple question, but they cannot answer it. I asked them just one simple question. Where is a law that says that I or anyone else is required to file a return? They cannot answer that question, because there is no law that requires one to file a return. It's a scam! Former IRS employees proved this too! There is a company that will award anyone $300,000 to show a law, and nearly 20 years later, no one came forward! This included former IRS agents too!

The worst experience I ever got in my life don't go to the irs when you have something urgent to take care off they will never help you the first time I showed up 2 hrs before closing waited for an hour and the lady told they won't be able to see me to come another day I showed up the second time i showed up at the office there was no one in the line and the lady still required me to make an appointment 3 days in advance before they going to see me. I went to ask some tax law questions--epic fail. Even in February, albeit in the early afternoon, the wait was estimated to be 4 hours. Even then, the help they give you is apparently no better than you can get on the phone, and it's basically just breaking down what's in IRS publications, not interpreting or providing any additional information. Getting in means getting into a federal building, so a full metal detector and bag scan, belts off, laptops and tablets out and in a separate bin. So in short, it's a huge pain for little to no payoff. I guess if you don't want to print forms or publications yourself you can grab hard copies and be in and out pretty quickly. Otherwise, I'll call or just figure it out myself.
