IRS tax office in Laguna Niguel

First, you have to understand that to do anything complicated here, you need an appointment, because otherwise there will not be any specialist staff there to help you. And the Santa Ana office regularly handles more kinds of services, but you should probably get an appointment there also, and since it's the same phone number no matter where you're making an appointment, they're sure to tell you which office you'll need to go to for what service. Yes, you might have to call the appt line many times to get through, and that sucks. That said, for what I needed to do (filing and paying), the person there was very helpful, and it didn't take very much time at all, and I did not have an appointment. There was nobody else there except the guy in front of me, who needed more complicated stuff, didn't have an appointment, and so was out of luck, they are unable to do anything that involves looking up any of your personal information here (at least not without an appointment).

Called the IRS to qinquire about a missing tax refund. I explained my problem to them they put me on hold 4-5 times and then said thank you and hung up on me without giving me an answer. Actually re t ar de d.

I walked in with a simple question and the woman behind the desk pretty much told me she was busy and didn't have time to help me unless I had an appointment. It was a simple question...how much do I owe you? She told me I have to make an appointment to find out that information. Then she turned around and left. Ma'am you work for me!

I come here every so often to ask tax questions regarding my balances and payments which is usually a very helpful and smooth experience. However, this time I walked in to the Tax information center and waited at the desk per instructed by the sign. I was surprised no one else was there besides two idle woman behind the counter. About 2 minutes later, a woman peered out from the partition and said, “Do you have an appointment?” I said no as that I wasn’t aware one was required (apparently it’s a new stipulation started this year.), but I didn’t mind waiting a few if she needed some time. She said, “What are you here for?” I said, “I just need to get accurate balances of what I owe for a few tax years so I can pay them off and -“ she rudely cut me off saying “You’ll have to go online or make an appointment.” I said, “Yes, that’s actually the problem. I’ve tried to do so online and the site is either down or it says no information at this time, and I’ve tried to call to -“ again, she cut me off, put two pieces of paper on the counter while walking away not even making eye contact with me repeating what she had said before. Then turned her back to me, and proceeded to walk away and shut the door in front of me. I felt very inconvenienced, confused, and upset. I calmly sat at a table in the back and called the number from one of the sheets she provided me with, so I could make an appointment. The hold time was 15-30 minutes. About 10-15 minutes into my hold time, she then came out of the back, saw me sitting there and said seemingly disgruntled, “Do you need something?” I responded, “Oh I’m just trying to make an appointment, I’m on hold.” She then said, “You can’t have phones in here, you need to step out and leave if you’re going to be on the phone.” (While pointing to a sign in the back listing rules of the office in which I hadn't seen.) She finished by saying, ”And you won’t be able to make a same day appointment. We are booked up until - ( I can’t recall the date but it was about a month or two out from what I remember.)” she then turned right around, went to the back again, closing the door. At this point I was extremely disheartened at the outrageousness of the over all situation. I came out of my way to get simple answers so that I may my taxes. I understand that the rules regarding appointments had changed since I had last been in (thanks to security explaining that to me upon leaving.) It would have been helpful of HER to explain that initially. Also, for being booked a month(s) out, she was definitely doing a lot of nothing, and with nobody. There later came a man who sat with the other attendant and at least he was being helped. Never in my life I have been treated so rudely. Let alone by someone in a “customer service” or “information” field. It made me feel insecure and almost discriminated against. “Why is she being so vapid towards me?” I thought to myself. “Is it because of my hair? Is it because I’m younger or that I have a sweatshirt and tennis shoes on and she assumes I don’t “look” like I’m worth treating with respect?” One of the papers she gave me was, ironically, the Taxpayer Bill of Rights. The second right listed is THE RIGHT TO QUALITY SERVICE. This woman working in the Chet Holifield Federal Building is in direct violation of taxpayer rights, and in my honest opinion, so is the US Internal Revenue Service for making it nearly impossible to obtain simple information in person, online, or over the phone; regarding our accounts and balances so that we, as citizens, may be able to be fiscally responsible and smoothly pay our taxes. The only reason I’m even giving at 1 star is because security has always been very professional, helpful, and friendly. The unprofessional woman’s name was Emily I believe. She provided a truly awful experience and I’m writing this because no other tax paying citizen should ever have to endure such unpleasantness. Be forewarned.

It's not entirely appointment only. There are a few things you can walk in for, and you'll need an appointment for the rest... unless you want to roll the dice and wait. They WILL let you wait and see if they can slip you in between the folks that have appointments. That said, it's still the IRS and it's still a government building with government zombies... err... employees working there. Signage is worthless, so just keep driving around until you get lucky and find the correct entrance. There is ample parking, and they've done their best to help you get at least a quarter of your 10k steps in for the day by making your walk a long one :)

I called the IRS customer service number regarding my issue they stated that I can go to my local office and hand over the documentation they need. So I arrived and this Old lady was racist and VERY rude. She didn't even let me talk, and then upset with me because I didn't call to setup an appointment. If I would have been told by the IRS call center to call and setup an appointment just like the DMV I would have done so. I called to speak to someone live but of course it was a waste of my time. Listen IRS DONT HIRE PEOPLE WHO HATE THEIR JOB AND ARE MISERABLE AND HATE TO SPEAK TO PEOPLE WHO ARE HISPANIC. I MAY HAVE DARK SINK BUT I SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED LIKE THAT, AND YES I AM YELLING BECAUSE THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. She needs to be counseled or have immediate disciplinary action.

This is like the death star. Nothing but evil here.

Beware!! Drove 2 hours to get here to just drop off my tax return and obtain a receipt for it only to learn its an appointment only IRS facility. Nothing on their website says this.

Went there with complex IRS tax problems. Out in a 15 min with problem solved. The lady who help me Tammy was knowledgeable, fast and helpful. Thanks.

For tax services enter through the east entrance. They will check you in and give you a badge. You will be directed to the elevator and instructed to go to the 3rd floor.
