Wow I am pleasantly surprised and never expected an interaction to go so well with the IRS. I cam to the San Jose branch this morning because there was a hiccup with my refund. There is 1hr metered street parking in the area, a good amount available too you should be able to get a park within 1 block. I stepped inside and noticed signs for "appointments only" (see pictures). So I called the appointment line to schedule, and got someone on the line in less than 5 minutes! Not only that but the agent asked why I wanted to schedule an appointment and when I told her, she pulled up my account and answered my questions!!! Amazing experience! (Probably once in a lifetime but I hope not lol.) Maybe this will help me look at the local office as a resource and not an obstacle. =)

And you never understand the token system and why both takes this much time. I hope IRS understands time of those people’s money the tax gets paid. And can do better planning..

When I called to get an appointment for this office, I got the operator in 1 minute wait and he had very next day's appointment available. That was a big surprise!! I was told to go a few minutes ahead so the folks can do security check. I ended up reaching at 10.30 am (my appointment was at 11.00 am). There were plenty of parking spots on the street. They checked my bags in 2 minutes and in the next two minutes, I was siting across the desk of the agent who handled my case. He was quick, friendly and very professional. I was out of the office by 10.42 am. Many of the bad reviews are just from people who are unhappy about having to pay taxes :(. That is misleading. This office and my whole experience was very pleasant.

Very good experience. You do need appointment, and taking that over phone is breeze. I went there for sailing certificate, and was out in 20-25 mins. I went on Monday evening and so had no rush there. I got token from reception and then counter literally in 5 mins. At the counter, I met Mr.Fields, who welcomed me with greeting, then checked my documents and asked some basic questions (from forms on his screen). He then filled out a form for me and got me a stamp on it. He is a nice, jolly person. That's it, I was then out with certificate in my hand. Office is good and well maintained. Pro tip: Book appointment for weekday afternoon, has no rush here then and you will be out quickly.

They literally don’t provide you with any kind of service here without an appointment. You want printouts of your W2? NO!!! you have to even set an appointment for that. How hard is it to get printouts of your W2 really?? And walking through the door they screen you like you are some criminal. They make you take everything off just short of taking of your Pants. if you think the airport TSA is bad you should come here and see. So be warned everyone, if you dont have an appoint dont waste your time coming here. Seriously... government services actually provide you with services before, What the hell happened?

Filed paperwork in February, they said I would get an answer in April or May. Now it’s almost July, taxes are due in 2 weeks; but I can’t file my taxes because they never returned my paperwork. Additionally they are closed from Coronavirus so I can’t even Inquire about the status of my application!

Arrived at the site only to realise you have to make an appointment. Appointments can only be done by phone (not even web) even though the office was very empty and when making a call at 930 PST no one picked up for 10mins. The five other people standing outside the building with me all got on their phones and nobody was able to get in. Schedule your appointment before you come! Probably this will fall on deaf ears but a suggestion would be to accept appointments online and even if walk-ins are not allowed, we should be able to schedule an appointment on the spot.

IRS Sanjose Office, CA. 08Mar16. We visited IRS Sanjose office to file ITIN and sumbit Tax papers. IRS Sanjose office entry is now strictly by appointment so take an appointment on phone prior to your visit. I parked in nearest parking VTA Michelle lot ($1/20 mnts) which is just 2-3 minutes’ walk from IRS office. Office opens up at 8.30 am and we were there at 8 am. At around 8.20 am an officer came out to remind people outside that entry will not be allowed without an appointment. I had first appointment of 8.30 am (with 2 more people having same appointment time in the queue outside) At sharp 8.30 we were allowed to get inside the building and were asked to stand in a queue where a security guard checked backpacks and sent me directly to the reception to collect the token. Since I was the first person in queue, my token no. was immediately called upon and I headed to to the cabin of IRS officer where I submitted all tax papers at around 8.35 am. After reviewing for a bit, He asked me to fill up a form for basic details (like Name/SSN/Sign etc) and asked to wait in the waiting area for a few minutes. In case you go with kids, they also have some toys in waiting area and a rest room. We were called back in 15 minutes and he gave us a type of a receipt of my tax papers and explained the timing etc to process these docs by IRS. We were done by 8.55 am so in just 25 minutes we were out of the building ! Had a Smooth experience contrary to what I heard earlier, seems all this due to strict appointment system put in place this year & me being the first person in the queue, so best is to get the first appointment. Hope this helps!

Like many people I dread spending hours at federal, state, or county offices because of poor dispatching and lack of manpower. I visisted the IRS office in downtown San Jose on 2/13/15 and was assigned to window 3. The individual who was supposed to be helping me was aggravating. She did not listen to me. She did everything to advert servicing my needs. After repeatedly stating the purpose of my visit she relinquished and began the process I was there for, BUT within ten minutes of the end of her work day she announced she would be leaving and would not be of any further help. Then she had the gall to loudly state my homework was to gather information to fill out the form. The problem was not that I didn't have the information, I didThe problem was that she wasted over 60 minutes fiddling around. I specifically asked for a form. She proceeded with printing out tax site locations, which I did not need, Tax guides, and other informational printouts. All of not value to me. If her actions are any indication of the kind of service the public is receiving, it is obvious that the IRS has not only cutbacks many of the services we pay taxes for, BUT those services will now have to be sought and paid for out-of pocket by the taxpayer. In the passed four years many of the governmental services have disappeared yet we are paying more for many of these services which are now being provided by the private sector.

This was my second visit to IRS OFFICE. You must take appointment before you visit this office for sure no excuse so we had an appointment at 830 AM and we were at the office sharp 815 AM we were called in the office based on the appointment time we went inside the office step-1 security check that guy was awesome then we were assigned with a token as we were first in the list to go we were called after 5 min Mr Ronnie was handling our itin and refunds request ..he was so polite and explained us about the whole process very patiently ..we did told him that this was my first time processing or itin and refunds and mentioned my first visit to IRS was not so pleasant full Mr Ronnie was so cool with his smiley face he just verified all the documents and asked some questions and completed the whole process within 30 min he made the atmosphere so good that I was comfortably asking him more questions about the timelines and other stuff If somebody visiting to the this IRS office I would recommend Mr Ronnie to handle the case I wish if there is anyway to thank him for his service which was provided THANK YOU MR. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is the US government tax administration office and has the responsibility for most (if not all) of the tax issues within the Jurisdiction. Located in Downtown San Jose on Market Street in the vicinity of Wells Fargo, St. Joseph's Cathedral and the Fairmont plus many others. The modern high-rise office building has a quite archetectually pleasing appearance,. I have not been on the inside so I reserve comments about the interior or indeed the customer service experience. The IRS Building in San Jose in my opinion is a pleasant and business like Tax Department.
